A group of Older Persons in Ward 9 Chipinge who were part of the PSS group, participated in the construction of a local community clinic. Ward 9 is the mountainous area of Chipinge district with most services and facilities inaccessible for older people.
Upon completion, the local council wanted to manage the clinic and charge the patients for service. Government clinics offer free services and medications to patients. The local OCM group, led by Dombo Francis took the matter to court and won the case. The clinic opened under the Ministry of Health thus OPs receive free service.
The group has demonstrated the capacity to make decisions and address the situation which determined the future of their access to health. The OPs in Ward 9 are living an active and productive life and participating fully in community development. That’s Agency.
